Journal 1: OMG! Writing is Totally My BFF!

Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not? In addition, why do you write—is it for a grade, leisure, communication, work, etc.? What are you hoping to accomplish in this class?

Due: Tuesday, June 29

  1. I don't consider myself a writer because I usually write when I'm told to do so. I'm also not the strongest writer, I find it to be one of my weaker areas. I usually write for communication and grades, very rarely do I write for leisure. I'm hoping to improve my writing skills and be more confident in them.

  2. I have never really considered myself to be a writer. Although I received very good grades in all of my literature classes so far, I have never felt any sort of flare or passion in writing. In fact, I can honestly say that the only reason I have ever written is to do well in school, and also to please my parents. In this composition class I hope to do the same, get good grades. And hopefully prepare myself for the rest of my college experience.

  3. I like to say that I am a pretty good writer. It depends on how I'm being told to write, and what the topic is. But it seems to come pretty naturally to me. In high school we had to take four years of english, but on top of that I was also on the newspaper staff, so I wrote all different types of writing. News, entertainment, sports, you name it. Stronger in more than others but it was something I enjoyed doing. I really hope that I get a better understanding of rhetoric and composition writing because that was not something I favored in english nor particularly excelled in. I hope it prepares me or future papers not only in english but in other classes that expect pieces.

  4. I have never considered myself a writer because I have never felt like it is my strongest subject. I have trouble communicating my thoughts and emotions through what I write, so I usually only right for a grade and very sparingly write for communication. In this class I hope to learn to express emotions better in my writing and improve my overall writing skills for my future endeavors.

  5. I considered myself a writer in a different aspect other than the use of words. I consider myself a writer when it comes to music. When I write music I want people to feel and know what I am feeling or thinking. I want to communicate with people with what I do best. I do not consider myself a writer in the manner we are taught in English classes. From this class I hope to obtain better writing skills, and the chance to better enhance my interest in writing.

  6. In all honesty, I believe everyone's considered a writer. We put a lot of thought into e-mails, IM's, blogs etc. that we post up and what we write reflects our personalities. Writing is the oldest form of communication. It's used in most, if not all, careers. I'd say I write mainly for work or grades simply because I can't find the time to write for leisure. I'm hoping to strengthen my skills in writing through this class and even bring out some creative spark.

  7. I used to just do assignments and write papers to get good grades in the class. I still do the work to get the good grade, however I have grown a well amount of interest in the actual process of writing. I consider myself a writer because I feel it lets people express their creativity. I feel that writing is different than other types of communication because it allows for so much diversification. I still mostly for write for that good grade, but I have found myself writing lyrics for songs and other creative pieces. Overall, in this class I'm looking to improve on my editing skills and mechanics in a paper.

  8. I consider myself to be a writer only when I'm writing about a subject that I love or feel strongly about. Most of the time school makes me turn away from writing. In highschool I was considered to be a strong writer in my english class, but I only pushed myself for the grade. Rarely do I write for leisure, but when I do, I enjoy it. Of course I hope to be successful in this class and make a good grade. I hope that overall my writing skills will improve, and that I can learn to be more creative.

  9. I do not consider myself a writer because I usually write for grades and communication. Very rarely, I write for leisure but not enough to consider myself a writer. I don’t believe writing is one of my strongest subjects but hopefully this class will make me better. In this class, I expect to improve my writing skills in all areas and learn many new writing techniques.

  10. I do not consider myself to be a writer. Usually, when I'm writing it's for a class for a grade. I believe a writer is someone who writes because they love to write, even when they are not asked to. I only write for leisure when I happen to be jotting down my day in my journal, but otherwise it's usually for class work that I'm assigned. In this class, I hope to improve how I write and edit my papers. Also, I hope to become more creative in my writing.

  11. I do not consider myself a writer, and I know it is not one of my stronger areas. I usually write only when I'm assigned to do so for school. I have enjoyed writing a few select papers when I have a strong opinion to express, but otherwise I experience a lot of writer's block. I do however enjoy some literature and would like to be able to write my own one day. I have had ideas for stories that I want to get on paper, but I have trouble doing so. In this class I hope to learn how to express my thoughts more clearly and become a more captivating writer.

  12. I consider myself a writer. I believe that a writer is one who turns thoughts or feelings into words. We all write, whether it’s in our journals, text messages or emails. Every once in a while I jot down my feelings in a journal to keep tract of my thoughts. My journal entrees are one of the several ways that I exercise my writing skills. I also find myself constantly communicating with the world through some form of writing. There is no way to escape it, we all are writers. The writer within comes out either at work, on the Internet, when letting out feelings on to a diary or journal, or even when were being forced to do our homework. From this class, I am hoping to better improve my writing skills in order to be able to express my feelings more effortlessly.

  14. As one of my weaker subjects, I do not consider myself a writer. I usually only write if I am told to do so and for communication. I believe that each person has a different way to speak their mind and for some it is in person, while others can communicate the best when writing it down first. Each person is comfortable with what comes naturally to them and I consider a writer to be someone who instinctivly writes all their thoughts down and before anything else. A good writer is born with the talent to write just as a star athlete is born with their athletic capabilities, but practice always improves ones talent whatever it may be.

  15. Growing up, teachers told me I had a knack for writing. But I never wrote for my self-pleasure, only to please them and assure a quality grade. I do not consider myself to be a writer because the term "writer" makes me think of someone who is paid to do so. However, as an educated teenager, I find myself writing constantly just to make it through the day. While in this English class I hope to learn how to improve the writing skills that are required to get me to the next day, not necessarily to write a novel.

  16. Throughout my life I have never considered myself to be a spectacular writer. Although, I have always had enough confidence in my writing to know that I could get the job done and accomplish my goal grade for the assignment. Most of the time I find myself writing either for grade or communication, rarely leisure. However, I have come to realize that writing is a necessity to everyday life and we write in leisure a lot more than we think. Throughout this course I hope to greatly improve my compostion abilities and adequately prepare myself for the rest of my college career.
