Last Journal

Throughout this class I've become a better writer than i was before. I know the elements of a good, well-written paper and how to use these techniques for an interesting and sometimes persuasive paper. Before, I didn't really enjoy writing at all because I found it boring in a way, but now, after this class, I like it a lot more. Writing is not just a chore anymore, its interesting. Writing multiple drafts of a paper seemed like a waste of time before but as I read through all my drafts of each paper I've completed I can see how much better my writing has gotten and how much my work has improved through each draft and after all the workshops. This class has been really fun and I am really happy that I was involved in this class.

After reading my first journal I compared it to my 8th journal. I realized that my thought process while writing has changed and it is apparent in my work. I have grown so much as a writer and thinker. With the help of both my instructors and classmates, I have accomplished my goals this semester. All the skills that I have learned in this course will be helpful in next semester. I will apply my knowledge and analytical skills in my future writing assignments.

Last Journal

Looking back at my first journal and throughout all my work this semester, I can defiantly say that my role as a writer has changed fairly drastically. During this semester, I learned many new components that go into developing a well written paper. I learned that I can’t write the same way for every single paper I write. I also learned that there is much more to an essay than the “5 paragraph” essay format. But mostly though, my entire view on writing has changed. No longer will I write a paper just for the sake of writing it. I learned to take pride in what you write and to always write about what you care about. Because if you write about what interests you; your true voice will always come out, making the paper you’re writing much better. I now feel like I can put my own voice into my writing more than I ever could. And I know for a fact that that is going to translate into even better writing in the future.

Last Journal

I see my role as a writer very differently now. I have learned that everyone is a writer in a different way. Anytime you are texting your friends, answering a blog, writing a paper or sending an email, you are writing. I am a writer, I still might not think I’m a very good one but I try my hardest every time and will get better and better the more I practice. I definitely have accomplished my goals for this semester, I wanted to improve my writing skills and learn many new writing techniques, which I have. I am very proud of myself for learning and getting through this class knowing that I wasn’t one of the best writers. I think this class help me be more confident and learn a lot more that I needed to know to write like a great writer.

The Last One

Throughout this class I think that it is safe to say that my writing has vastly improved. I see myself as a decent writer now and have much more confidence in my abilities. The skills that I have learned in this short course will definately help me as I move through toward graduation, and even though I have all of my english credits thanks to AP tests (woohoo!) I know that nearly all the classes that I will take in the future will require some type of writing. Thank you Leigh for giving me a solid foundation to start off my college career, and giving me confidence in my writing as I pursue onward.

Journal 9: Last Journal!

My role as a writer has definitely changed significantly. Before, my writing was vague and monotone. I didn't give my readers enough detail, nor did I work to make my writing sound like me. Now, my writing is a lot closer to home. I'm not writing to sound scholarly but to sound more like me. Of course, this changes a bit depending on my audience. I have accomplished my goals for this semester because in the beginning, the thought of writing an eight page paper seemed near impossible. Now, I know I'm quite capable of writing one. The things I've learned in this class will help me in my next English class because no matter who you're writing for, the same rules will still have to be applied.

After the class I think I am the same type of writer and that I just overall improved. I was able to work on my mechanics and learn how to play around with my writing a little more. I felt that I learned there is a lot more to writing and an english class then composing a draft and revising it. I learned the english language is very complex and there is so many ways to analyze and construct an opinion on the world we live in. I believe this english class was one of my better ones just because we looked at deeper issues and we had open discussions. I believe I accomplished my goal to become a better writer by learning how to develop and workshop papers in new ways. I'm taking creative writing in the fall and the way I learned how to generate ideas and come up with new creative topics will definitely help me in my future class.

In the past six weeks, my writing skills have grown immensely. From the help of a great teacher and wonderful classmates, I have realized that my writing wasn't as bad as I thought it was, coming into this class. I feel like I know how to write with more meaning, and to put more insight and of myself into the piece that I'm writing. I have learned that advice from others is helpful, and that successful conferences are encouraging. I feel that in Enc 1102, I can write even better than I did in Enc 1101, because I have already learned so much that I can take with me into the next writing class. From taking this class, I now feel much more confident about my writing skills, and that readers may see the meaning in my papers. I have really enjoyed this class!

Last Journal!

The last six weeks in ENC1101 have definitely changed me as a writer. I actually enjoyed writing each paper. I had never written so much so easily before. In high school if I found out that I had to write a seven-page paper I would have wanted to kill myself. This time I was able to write about something that intrigued me. I learned to think critically and analyze more. The analytic paper opened my eyes to looking beyond the surface, and observing the meaning behind it. I found writing for this class fun and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. I would definitely consider myself a better writer after completing this class and I feel ready for ENC1102. Now I might even write for fun and not only when I need to for a grade.

Last Journal Ever!!!!!!!!

Upon completion of this class, I have now realized that I am an entirely different writer. Prior to this course, I had never used the rhetoric techniques to write an essay and I have now acquired that particular skill. Also thanks to all the Youtube videos and other various excercies we did in class, I now have a better perception of audience. Audience was never a major factor in my compostitions. The first journal I completed was completely made up and not true in any way. I said something along the lines of me being the greatest writer of Western literature and how scholars have complimented me on my world famous compositions. This was not true and I didn't take that particular journal seriously. However if I would've put the generic goals of "becoming a better writer" then that goal has certainly been accomplished. Now that I have a great command of rhetoric and writing compositions, writing resumes will be no problem and potential employers could be impressed with my rhetoric.

I definitely see my role as a writer differently than when the semester first started. I feel I can make my voice mean more in my writing. This semester I have learned actually how to write differently according to my audience. I have never really know how important writing to your audience really is until this semester and what it can do for your paper. I now know how to write to a particular audience with my papers. Before taking this class, I have never actually written a research paper and thankfully I have learned how to now. I know I will be writing many research papers in the next couple of years, so this technique will definitely be useful. This class has also made me analyze advertisements like I never have before. I will never look at an advertisement without finding its motive and what the company of the advertisement is trying to achieve. Thank you Leigh for everything you have taught me this semester!

The past six weeks have really broadened my skills of writing. I've always been more of a creative writer and this class forced me to rhetorically analyze work and look at it differently. I now carefully consider my audience and its hard for me to look at an ad without analyzing it! I wanted to strive to becoming a more open writer with wide writing styles and although I don't necessarily think I have the whole rhetorically analyzing thing down pact I know how to approach papers of that nature and I have more confidence. Also, I know my work has to be molded around who I'm trying to direct it to. All of these things I've learned will definitely influence the way I write from here on out. Not just in my english classes but any class that I have to write papers in.

The tone of my writing usually depends on what i am writing about. Typically if it is something sad then of course I won't use a happy tone with exclamations. I don't feel like I have a particular style of writing though. Maybe through someone else's eyes reading my writing I do, but I don't particulary feel like I have a personal style. For tone though, I try to find who my audience is and what may grab their attention. In my own experience, I get absolutely bored with a dull tone, so I try to stay away from that and try for a more interesting tone. To build up that a certain event or something is fun I like to make my words into a happy tone that becomes more and more exciting eventually leading up to the event i am trying to describe or explain in my writing. Personally I don't feel a person can go wrong with tone, but of course they are ways to make it more interesting to grab the audience's attention and I always try to do that.

The tone of my writing as well as the tone of my speech changes depending on who the audience is. The formality and vocabulary used in my writing is going to be drastically different in a research essay for an english class than in an email to a friend. Likewise, when I am speaking to people I have to have a few different voices. When talking to my peers my voice is very relaxed as well as the language i use, whether it be profanne or not. When I am having a conversation with a person who is my elder, or a person who is in a position of authority it is strictly "yes sir/no sir" and very sophisticated speech.

My voice definitely changes depending on my audience. Like we learned in class, there are different ways to talk to people depending on who they are. If it’s an older person my voice gets very proper and formal. I speak in a very respectful manner when it comes to people with higher authority like my parents, a teacher, or a boss. But when I’m writing to my friends my voice changes to a more fun and outgoing manner. I wont really care about the grammar and just write very informally. When I speak to my five-year-old dance class students my tone changes to a more soft and slow pace. My vocabulary is easier words and easier to understand.

The tone of voice used when composing a piece of writing is vital to your work. I definitely consider the tone I am going to use based on the audience that will be reading the writing. A letter written to a teacher will look very little like one that is written to a best friend. The letter to the best friend will be more casual and fun while the letter to the teacher will sound more serious and professional. Without practicing tone flexibility while writing you might alienate a certain audience. You have to know who you are writing to and what type of tone in the writing this target audience will enjoy reading.

my style definitely changes depending on who my audience is. if i'm talking to a friend i'll throw in more personality and maybe some humor. i would talk in a way that would relate to them. but if i'm talking to an adult then i would talk in a more formal and respectful way. it also depends on what subject we're discussing. if i'm on an interview and they ask what i do in my spare time i may say something like read a book but if a friend asks me, i would say something like going to the beach or just hanging out with my friends.

I think that my style and voice are somewhat sarcastic and to the point. I don't often change my tone for different audiences. I talk to my friends, parents, and teachers all in similar matters. Of course, I like to respect all of them and not be rude to anyone, unless it was in a playful way to a friend. The only time I would change my voice would be in two situations of polar opposites; a policer officer or a little kid. I would be extra careful of my word choice and be sure to not say anything inappropriate in both situations. For the police officer, it would be to avoid any problems and to give my utmost respect. For the little kid, it would be to set a good example.

Depending on who my audience is, my writing style will vary. For the most part, I try to keep my compositions as formal as possible, but it can deviate from this formality. For example if I am writing to a friend or peer, I try to make myself sound as sophisticated as possible without overdoing it. I want my audience to know that I am knowledgable but at the same time I don't want those same people to think that I'm a douche. When I am writing a composition for school or a resume, I try to be as formal as possible. I try to be so formal that it's just short of overdoing it. In this situation, I attempt to be as extensive as possible with my vocabulary because I know I won't be judged and it will look better.

I think I have a unique and personal creative writing style. I always like to add in my personal opinion to all my writing. I don't think I change my writing style too much to accommodate my audience. I feel I usually always have some type of playful style in my writing no matter if my audience is my friend or my teacher. I believe my grammar is one of the things that changes with my audience. When I'm writing to a friend or classmate my style is a lot more informal. If I'm writing a paper for a teacher I feel my language is more processed and grammatically correct. I usually do not change my style of writing to a certain audience, but I think I change my prose and word choice differently depending on who I'm writing to.

My style of writing is very creative. I like to try my hardest so that my audience can literally feel in their bodies whatever I want them to feel. Love, pain, death, sadness, jealousy, anger. I feel like I am very good at drawing emotion into my pieces so that the person reading it can completely relate. My voice definitely changes when the audience changes. If I'm writing for children than my language is more simplistic and easy. If its to an adult or professor it's as professional and responsible as I can be. I want my work to be understandable to every person that reads it.

No, my voice does not change depending on my audience. Regardless if I am talking to an adult or a child, I don't change how I explain or refer things. I may address an adult with, yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am, but that is the only time my voice may change. If a child was asking to me to explain the game of basketball, I would explain it the same way as I would to an adult. Just because the age group you are addressing changes, doesn't mean the amount of knowledge you tell should.

My voice changes depending on who im speaking to. If im talking to my best friend, I will be more casual and not care so much how I sound rather than if i was talking to one of my professors. When talking to my professors I use better word choice and vocabulary because its more appropriate. Then it changes when im talking to little kids, like a kindergarten class. I use easier words se they can understand because their vocabulary isn't as built up because of their young age. So, yes my voice does change along with the audience I'm speaking to.

My style of voice is quiet and understanding. My voice also isn’t the most confident sounding, but I feel that I always get my point across. But naturally, my voice always changes based on who I am conversing with. If I am having a discussion with a peer; in a casual tone, I will be a little more outgoing and not be afraid to say what I want to say. If I am talking to a superior authority that I have a relationship with, my tone and style will defiantly be more humble, but I still would try to include a friend-like touch to it. And if I am having a conversation with an authority figure with whom I have no relation with, my tone will be very humbled and open to whatever that person says, and I won’t be able to get my point across as easily.

My voice certainly changes depending on my audience. If I'm talking to a bunch of pre-schoolers, than my voice is most likely to raise in pitch and my word choice will be very simple and easy for 4 year olds to comprehend. Another style of voice is the one that I would use with my parents. My tone is usually one that sounds annoyed, and my word choice is usually very short. However, if I would like to go somewhere, my voice becomes sweet and the words are drawn out. Whenever talking to an adult, employer, or teacher, my voice in an email or in a conversation tends to sound very formal and intelligent (hopefully this is how i sound most of the time). So yes, the voice does alter to its selected audiences.

Well, the name says it all. It's quite an ugly website. Of course, I think the creator of the website was intending for it to be that way. But it's a good example of what NOT to do. In other words, don't choose an unappealing background color. Also, the font and color choices don't even go together. Nor is it easy to browse through.

This website, on the other hand, is awesome. Apart from being my favorite website (just because it's my favorite store) the layout just goes together. The ugly website is not organized well. It has very unattractive photos and nothing matches or flows. You have one photo with a red border and then another photo with a white background when the background of the whole site is pink cats. The font of the site is not even the same through out. The website also does not use the right grammar and doesn't use capital letters. The website is about someones cat, which no one really cares about, so its not using either logos, pathos or ethos.
The pretty website is very appealing to the eye. Everything is matching, it is very well organized and the links are easy to find and use. It is all black and shiny, with diamonds and glitter, which attracts and draws the eye in. This website uses ethos by showing credibility, the home page has a big picture of Kim Kardashian that draws everyones attention. As well, every page has small photos at the top of the toolbar of Kim and activities shes done in her life.

The Petdr website is the website that I chose as the ugly one. It is visually unappealing. The background color is dull and makes me want to fall asleep. On top of that, it is a color that doesn’t match with much. The whole website is full of clashing colors. It’s also disorganized. It has a bunch of links and pictures scattered and cluttered all around the website. It looks as if it was designed by someone very inexperienced. The website looks like its attempting to use pathos in order to get clients to come to this pet dr but it fails because the pictures don’t touch me as much as they should.

Also it is designed very well and has very user-friendly features that make it an easy to use site. This website is just flat out hideous. The title of the site itself doesn’t explain what the site is all about what so ever. There are many random colors and shapes all over the place that hold next to no meaning in them. Not only does the title and coloring not go together, but the organization is way off as well. This website really is hard on the eyes. This site looks incredible, and has no logic in its construction.

This is a gaming website chalk full of all sorts of different activities. This websites lay out is the exact opposite of the previous website. The entire site uses a nice and neat uniform blue, giving it a nice sense of familiarity. The organization is top notch, with every single game on the site being organized into a certain category. The title of this site is very self explanatory as well. It is interesting though, because at one point in time; this exact website would have been put into the “ugly” site category.
