Eavesdropping at the reservation
It was late saturday afternoon and I was at the reservation with some friends. It was a typical day in Florida with the humidity real high and a chance of a shower looming overhead. My friends and I went into the the red darkness of the pond wondering what was beneath us. We swam for a little and just relaxed on the tubes in the lake until we got bored. Later I headed out of the water to dry off and as I pulled my towel out of my bag i was suddenly captured by the scent of grilled chicken. As i looked up I noticed the pavilion next to me, which was filled with an assortment of food and people. I observed that everyone in the pavilion was there for a picnic because they were all wearing the same family reunion shirt. As I continued to dry off, a conversation between two people caught my attention. The woman bluntly said to her son, "Baby stop buying those rims and tint jobs and actually get a job." Her son responded by saying " I know momma but i have to be looking good in a pimped out car." At that moment I gave a little smirk and then I think both of them saw me in the corner of their eye. Once that happened i finished drying off and I headed over to the volleyball court to meet up with my friends. As I trotted over that quick glimpse of a conversation got me thinking. The son said he pimped out his car which I translated in my mind as all the customized cars I saw roaming the streets in the past week. The small amount of dialogue I overheard sounded like the son was being very wasteful with his money. His mother was hoping her son change his ways by getting a job. It seemed like his mom was starting to get emotional about the subject, but her son just played off the conversation like it was nothing. While I was playing volleyball I took a quick glance at the pavilion and I saw the mother and son arguing now. This was all going on while everyone else from the rest of their family was having a good time enjoying the food and each others company. Seeing the mother and son fight was very irritating for me. After eavesdropping on their conversation a little I just thought how stubborn and ignorant the son really was. After his mother proposed he get a job he responded by saying " I know momma but i have to be looking good in a pimped out car." This could have been out of context but I feel the son needs to stop living in a complete fantasy world. It sounded like he was living off of his mom's income and spending it on extraneous items. At first when I overheard the mother and son talking I kinda of thought it was amusing and funny; however, moments later I was sympathetic towards the mother and angry how ridiculous the son's comment was.
