There are actually two billboard ads in this image. The first one on top is of a doctor looking very distressed. On the billboard it says "Childhood Obesity. Don't Take it Lightly." The ad uses pathos trying to hit the audiences emotions by addressing the topic of obesity very seriously. In the picture it uses ethos with the credibility of the doctor. Also, the doctor's posture and facial expression in the picture are very effective by demonstrating her seriousness towards childhood obesity. The author definitely took a serious approach with this using the credibility of a doctor and emotional gloominess of the whole scene. I thought this ad was effective in trying to convince the audience how critical childhood obesity is with the rigid and morose approach.
This picture as a whole is pretty funny because the second ad below the childhood obesity ad is for McDonald's. This is a little ironic since McDonald's and the fast food industry have a great deal to do with childhood obesity especially in lower income families. Overall, I thought the second ad was more effective getting its message across than the first. The McDonald's ad wants to show the audience how much he or she can get for their money. It does this by using a typical girl holding bags of their food as if she went on a shopping spree. The ad uses a lot of pictures of their food to try to demonstrate all the possibilities there are at McDonald's. The ad mostly uses pathos trying to hit that emotional appeal that people already have with their food, trying to bring them back to their restaurant.
