Beyonce-August-2009-LOreal-Ad-Silver-Gold.jpg

This advertisement for L'oreal makeup products is effective mostly due to Beyonce. She is a gorgeous celebrity that many women aspire to be like. She looks flawless in this photo, and girls will think they can try to look like her if they buy this. The ad conveys a message that physical beauty can be more easily achieved by using L'oreal makeup. The creator of this ad made good choices by making the entire palette metallic colors for the silver and gold products. The background, as well as Beyonce's hair and wardrobe, add to the effect that the colors are appealing. This advertisement would work for me, as I'm sure it would on millions of others.

  1. I can't see the ad, but I've got a feeling I've seen a million more just like. I wonder if there are any race issues at play here-is this ad appealing to black women like Beyonce, or all women? Is it "selling" a specific standard of beauty?

  2. I don't think this ad only appeals to black women. Beyonce is a role model for all types of women of any race. I think L'oreal chose Beyonce because she is such a huge celebrity with a very diverse group of fans. The product she is helping to sell isn't only for black women, but for all women.
